誠如《禮記》禮運‧大同篇所言，「老有所終」實為一個理想境界！
在何地養老，有多少金錢可供自己養老，則是人生善終前最重要的一環。
只是，「老有所終」絕非無中生有，萬事皆需預做準備，才能擁有。

1950年台灣新竹出生，1976年畢業於台灣大學醫學系，1984至1985年到加拿大蒙特婁McGill大學進修，取得實驗外科碩士。專長在小兒外科，曾擔任小兒外科主任、台灣小兒外科醫學會第十任理事長、高雄長庚醫院外科部主任、長庚大學臨床醫學研究所高雄分班副所長、高雄長庚醫院副院長及代理院長，目前為顧問級主治醫師，並榮任長庚醫療財團法人董事。
業餘熱衷寫作，除了本書，另外已出版兩本書，分別是自傳《過河卒子: 一名外科醫師未預期的人生之旅》，以及供民眾就醫參考的《醫療大觀園：避免成為看病劉姥姥的就醫指南》
